Raven’s Standard Progressive Matrices (SPM) and Raven’s Standard Progressive Matrices Plus (SPM Plus)

Raven’s SPM is a test of observation skills and clear-thinking ability. It offers insight about someone’s capacity to observe, solve problems, and learn. The test has a total of 60 items presented in 5 sets (A–E), with 12 items per set.

The SPM Plus contains more powerful items while retaining the five-set, sixty-item format of the SPM. There is no time limit for either the SPM or the SPM Plus.

The SPM or SPM Plus score can be used as an indication of a candidate’s potential for success in professional, management and high-level technical positions that require clear thinking, problem identification, holistic situation assessment, and monitoring of tentative solutions for consistency with all available information. The SPM or SPM Plus score also can be used for developmental purposes in occupational and educational settings. The nonverbal aspect of each test minimizes the impact of cultural or language bias.

The Raven’s SPM and SPM Plus each produces a single raw score as well as percentile rank to indicate the candidate’s educative ability or the ability to think clearly and extract meaning out of events, compared to a norm group.

Kits
Raven’s Progressive Matrices is available in a variety of pre-packaged Kits for easy purchase and a discounted price from the individual components. Customers can purchase specific Coloured, Standard, or Advanced Kits or a Complete Kit containing all three versions.

Answer Forms
Most versions of the Raven’s Progressive Matrices have Easy Score Answer Sheets. These are double page forms that transfer answers from the front page directly to a back page designed to translate responses into scores.

Test Booklets
Each version of the Raven’s Progressive Matrices is administered by use of a booklet containing the version specific matrices. These can be reused over time, or some have used them as the Answer Sheet as well (although this can be quite expensive). Test Booklets can be purchased individually or in packages of ten for group administration.

Raven’s Progressive Matrices have a long and distinguished history of research. There are six (6) manuals available (officially referred to as Sections 1 – 6) that not only discuss how to administer and interpret the test, but contain numerous research and technical information as well.

When purchasing a Kit, all of the manuals relevant to the version you are purchasing are included. If you wish to purchase additional Manuals, detailed descriptions of their content are listed in the Manual section of this site.

Scoring Keys
Easy Score Answer Forms have eliminated the need for Scoring Keys in most situations. If you still have large numbers of Hand-Scorable Answer Forms, or several of the versions we have not yet revised, the Scoring Keys are listed with the appropriate Answer Form.
