The University of Minnesota Press and Pearson Assessments Announce
Revisions to the MMPI-2 Test Materials and Reports
First Significant Revision Since 1989 Incorporates Current Research
May 17, 2001, MINNEAPOLIS—The University of Minnesota Press and Pearson Assessments today announced the first significant revision to the most widely-used and widely-researched test of adult psychopathology, the MMPI-2 instrument.
Since its launch in 1989, several new scales were researched and developed that necessitated revising MMPI-2 test materials and reports, which are now available.
Revisions
The revisions include:
- Expanded validity indicators section of the validity and clinical scales profile
VRIN, TRIN, FB, FP, and S have been added to the validity and clinical scales profile, enabling test users to refine their evaluation of profile interpretability. The re-ordering of the validity scales reflects the recommended sequence for developing an interpretation of the profile: measures of inconsistent responding (VRIN, TRIN); measures of infrequent responding (F, FB, FP); and measures of defensive responding (L, K, S).
- New PSY-5 supplementary scales profile
The PSY-5 scales measure the "Big Five" model of personality. Developed by
Harkness et al., the scales include: Aggressiveness (AGGR), Psychoticism (PSYC), Disconstraint (DISC), Negative Emotionality/Neuroticism (NEGE), and Introversion/Lack of Positive Emotionality (INTR).
- Revised general supplementary scales profile
The Cook/Medley Hostility scale (Ho) has been added, the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder scale (PS) is no longer offered, and the Social Introversion (Si) subscales no longer appear on this profile but remain a part of the MMPI-2 product line.
The scales have been reordered: A, R, Es, Do, Re (scales representing or related to familiar normal-range personality constructs); Mt, PK, MDS (indicators of generalized emotional distress with a clinical emphasis); Ho, O-H, MAC-R, AAS, APS (indicators of behavioral dyscontrol, the last three focusing on substance abuse); and GM, GF (gender-role scales).
- An updated Manual for Administration, Scoring, and Interpretation
The manual documents the test revisions and provides expanded guidelines for interpretation based upon current research.
These revisions are found in the hand-scoring materials, as well as in many of the MMPI-2 test reports available through the MICROTEST Q Assessment System Software, and Mail-in Scoring Service.
Under license from the University of Minnesota since 1982, Pearson Assessments is the exclusive worldwide distributor of scoring services and materials for the MMPI-2 and MMPI-A tests in the English-language.
