Second Edition of The Minnesota Report™:
Adolescent Interpretive System Incorporates Current Research for an Up-to-Date Interpretation

Newly revised MMPI-A™ interpretive report provides an in-depth tool to help clinicians confidently assess the mental health and behavioral problems of adolescents

June 12, 2007, Bloomington, MN – Pearson Assessments and the University of Minnesota Press announce the release of the second edition of The Minnesota Report: Adolescent Interpretive System for the MMPI-A (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-Adolescent™) test. Authored by professors James N. Butcher, PhD, and Carolyn L. Williams, PhD, this new edition incorporates current research, base rate information, and new scales. A comprehensive User’s Guide accompanies the new edition and documents the revisions introduced, including the goals and composition of the report and the samples used to develop the frequency information.

The Minnesota Report: Adolescent Interpretive System, Second Edition offers clinicians an in-depth interpretation of an adolescent’s MMPI-A test results, informed by the most current research on the test. Authors Butcher and Williams developed a comprehensive report in highly readable sections tailored to the client that include:

  • Validity Considerations
  • Symptomatic Behavior
  • Interpersonal Relations
  • Behavioral Stability
  • Diagnostic Considerations
  • Treatment Considerations

In addition, the report assesses alcohol and other drug problem behaviors through several measures and provides special reporting for six different settings. The six settings include school, correctional and juvenile justice, outpatient mental health, inpatient mental health, alcohol and drug treatment, and general medical.

Dr. Debra Bond uses The Minnesota Report in a correctional setting at the Connecticut Juvenile Training School, a facility for adjudicated boys ages 13-18. “The Minnesota Report gives us a good description of the boy in terms of whether he has any mental health needs,” said Dr. Bond. “I like to look at treatment modalities and level of depression. I also like to use the report to help us confirm the level of threat posed by the boys we do have on watches.”

Dr. Julie Lackaff, former school psychologist for the Chicago public schools and now Assessment Project Director for Pearson Assessments, used The Minnesota Report in a school setting. “The MMPI-A is one of the most well-researched tests of adolescent psychopathology available. As a result, I could rely on the Minnesota Report to give me accurate and comprehensive information about a student's clinical and personality profile,” said Dr. Lackaff.

“At Pearson Assessments, we are committed to providing mental health professionals access to the tools they need to make appropriate determinations for their clients,” said Carol Watson, executive vice president and publisher. “With the second edition of ‘The Minnesota Report: Adolescent Interpretive System,’ they will have interpretations that are based on the most current research.”
