Psychologists Turn to NCS to Increase their Credibility in
the Courtroom

August 20, 1999, MINNEAPOLIS—Since the 1970s, congressional modifications to federal laws that govern the admissibility of evidence have allowed psychologists to provide expertise in legal proceedings. As a result, the demand for forensic experts has skyrocketed.

Specialized forensic assessments from NCS can help psychologists "take the stand" with confidence, clarity-and most of all, empirical support--for their expert testimony in such situations as child custody disputes, competency to stand trial hearings, personal injury lawsuits and pre-trial criminal evaluations.

These assessments include:

  • MMPI-2™ (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2™)—The MMPI-2 test is the most widely-used assessment in forensic situations. It offers setting-specific reports that can be used in a range of critical situations.

  • VIP™ (Validity Indicator Profile)—This self-administered validity indicator is a multi-modal approach to help detect malingering and other problematic response styles. A performance curve graph helps make it easy to explain results to decision-makers.

  • TOMM (Test of Memory Malingering)—This is a brief, clinician-administered, visual recognition memory test that helps assess feigned memory impairment and malingering.
