New BHI 2 Assessment for Use with Medical Patients Now Available
Test helps clinicians treat the whole patient by measuring bio/psycho/social factors
August 15, 2003, MINNEAPOLIS—Pearson Assessments announces the release of the BHI 2 (Battery for Health Improvement 2) assessment—a self-report instrument designed to provide psychologists and medical professionals with a concise, coordinated assessment of patients’ bio/psycho/social characteristics.
The BHI 2 test’s 18 scales cover physical symptoms, affect, character, psychosocial issues, and validity. The test is double-normed on a U.S. census-matched community sample and chronic pain and physical rehabilitation patients. Clinicians can compare their patients’ symptoms to six reference groups: head injury/headache, neck injury, upper extremity injury, lower extremity injury, back injury, and chronic pain. Patients complete the 217-item test in 35–40 minutes.
Clinicians will use the test to help determine pre-surgical readiness, develop treatment plans, evaluate treatment effectiveness, and monitor clinical outcomes. Test reports can also provide documentation for insurance providers and help meet industry standards, such as those set by the Counsel on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
In treating the whole patient, including the BHI 2 assessment helps the clinician to provide more appropriate patient care, better targeted treatment, and more realistic treatment expectations. For some clinics, better management of resources and staff time, and reduced overall medical costs are possible.
