Test Author Achilles Bardos, PhD, to Present at National Symposium on Correctional Health Care
Workshop to address achievement and cognitive skills screening appropriate for prison populations
August 15, 2003, MINNEAPOLIS—University of Northern Colorado professor and test author Achilles Bardos, PhD, will present a workshop on tests of basic achievement and cognitive skills that are appropriate for persons with widely different academic, linguistic and cultural backgrounds at the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. The Symposium, sponsored by the National Conference on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC), will take place October 4–8 in Austin, Texas. Bardos’ 1-hour workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, October 7 at 4:00 p.m.
Referencing case studies in which the GAMA® (General Ability Measure for Adults) test and the soon-to-be-released BASI (Basic Achievement Skills Inventory) test were used, Bardos will instruct participants how to administer and interpret the tests, and how to apply the findings, using validity evidence available with both correction samples and the general population.
The GAMA® (General Ability Measure for Adults) test is a brief, nonverbal instrument that provides an estimate of an individual’s general intellectual ability.
The BASI (Basic Achievement Skills Inventory) test is a series of multi-level, norm-referenced group- or self-administered achievement tests.
Symposium attendees may visit the Pearson Assessments booth #107 to learn more about the GAMA or BASI instruments, or call Pearson Assessments at (800) 627-7271, ext.3225. Online resources are available at www.pearsonassessments.com.
