Beverly Scheib
Beverly Scheib (BA, MEd) is a trained teacher with experience in mainstream and special schools in the USA and the UK. She has combined an academic role in teacher training and research with private practice, assessing and teaching children. She was involved in setting up the first full curriculum day-school in England for children with Specific Learning Difficulties/dyslexia, where she developed programmes to strengthen literacy, handwriting and motor co-ordination skills. She has worked with Anna Barnett and Sheila Henderson on a survey of handwriting policy and practice in English primary schools and on the original version of DASH/DASH17+ as well as the most recent edition – DASH-2. Beverly co-authored a literacy scheme and several booklets on handwriting. With the introduction of computers into schools, she recognised early on the value technology could offer in aiding literacy and engaging the reluctant writer. To help maximise proficiency with the tool, she wrote a keyboard training programme for children with literacy difficulties. Beverly served as Vice-chair of the NHA for many years.
