Portal Help

The Field Research Portal is fundamental to participating in Field Research opportunities. This online, encrypted database is where examiners add candidates to be considered for testing, receive new assignments, and track the status of their payments. Bookmark the Field Research Portal for quick reference.

Field Research Portal

It is important to keep your account in the Field Research Portal current. To avoid delay in receiving messages about assignments, payments, and important project updates make sure:

Your Examiner Profile is current with correct contact information, education, profession, and experience.
Your email preference within your Examiner Profile is set to either one email per message or one email per day.

The Field Research Portal houses four sections: Messages, Candidates, Assignments, and Payments.

Messages

The Messages tab is where examiners receive notifications from the Field Research Team including assignment notifications and Field Research updates. It is important that examiners and sites check their messages often.

Update your email preferences in your Examiner Profile. It is important to provide an email address that you check regularly and to select email notification frequency so that you do not miss a message.

Candidates

Candidate information is added and managed by the examiner or site in the Candidates tab. Demographic information, such as date of birth, ethnicity, education level, and clinical diagnoses, is required so that Field Research can select the most demographically representative samples from the pool of available candidates.

To protect a candidate's personal identifiable information (PII), each candidate is provided a Candidate Identification Number (CID). Use this number in communication with Field Research regarding the candidate.

Candidates with diagnoses may qualify for special clinical samples. Test scores may be required to support their diagnosis. Enter these scores within the Clinical Diagnostic Information section.

After adding or making changes to the candidate’s information, click Save.

Make sure candidates' profiles are current and marked as Available. Mark unavailable candidates as Unavailable to prevent Field Research from assigning them unintentionally.

Digital Consent Forms (Found in the Candidates tab)

Annual Consent Forms are required before testing and are sent to the adult candidate or parent/guardian via their email. The following is an example of the Annual Consent Form fields that need to be completed to send the form correctly to the candidate’s email.

Select consent form: Select the type of consent form that will be sent to the candidate. Be mindful of your selection. Adult Annual Consent Forms are sent to candidates 18 years or older. Adult/guardian Annual Consent Forms are sent to the parent of a candidate.
Select consent form year: Select the current year. At the end of year, watch for communication regarding Annual Consent Form renewals.
My email address: You may also choose to send a copy to your address as well as the candidate's. This is useful if the candidate may need another copy forwarded to them.
Candidate email address: The candidate’s email address will populate from the candidate’s details information. To send the Annual Consent Form to the candidate's email address, click the lower check box.
Notes for the email body: Enter any notes you may have for the adult candidate or parent/guardian in this section and click Send.

Assignments

Field Research reviews candidates for selection based on the testing opportunities that an examiner or site has expressed interest in. If the candidate is needed, they will be assigned to complete testing. All assigned tests are listed in the Assignments tab by candidate.

Due dates are found in the Assignments tab under Pending Assignments and then Requirements.

Tips

Complete your assignments by the due date provided. If you are unable to complete the assignment by the due date, contact FRExaminerSupport@pearson.com. We are happy to assist you!
Immediately decline assignments if you will not be able to complete them.

Payments

In the Payments tab, examiners can find and review the payments or incentives issued to them and to their examinees for participating in Field Research. To avoid payment delays:

Ensure that your Examiner Profile is current and includes a mailing address and contact information.
Submit an IRS Form W-9 annually and whenever a name or address change occurs. Ensure that your Examiner Profile matches the name and address provided on the IRS Form W-9.
Register for direct deposit

Contact the Field Research Payments team if you change your marital status or add/remove a hyphen to your name at FRPayments@pearson.com

Under the Examiner tab

Under Examiner Profile, examiners can edit their profile, elect to receive messages from the Field Research Portal, and manage message frequency.

Candidate Recruitment

What is a Field Research Candidate?

A Field Research candidate is a person who volunteers to take part in one or more research testing opportunities. Field testing with Pearson helps shape the future of assessments. Candidates who complete testing are compensated for their time.

Examiner Responsibilities

Review the Project Page for candidate inclusion and exclusion criteria information
Recruit and gather demographic, medication, and contact information for each candidate
Add candidate information in the Field Research Portal
Send each candidate an Annual Consent Form through the Field Research Portal

Collecting Candidate Information

Log in to the Field Research Portal to become familiar with the candidate profile required fields. The candidate profile must be complete for candidates to be considered for a project. The following information is required to select candidates who meet the sample needs of a project.

Name
Date of birth
Sex
Race/ethnicity
Any formal diagnosis
If candidate has a diagnosis, clinical diagnostic information to support the diagnosis
Medications
Services/treatments
Candidate's highest education completed (if 18 years or older)
Parents' highest education completed (if 24 years or younger)
With whom candidate lives or most recently lived (if 24 years or younger)
Whether candidate speaks and/or understands English
Whether candidate speaks and/or understands a language other than English
If candidate speaks Spanish, what is their country of origin
If candidate is under 18 years and speaks Spanish, what is their parents' country of origin

Where Can I Recruit Candidates?

Through your personal and professional networks
In person (e.g., local libraries, sporting events, professional networking events)
Online (e.g., social media, email lists, group forums)

Ideas for In-Person Recruitment

Share study information with existing clients
Ask parents/guardians of clients or participants if they have other children, relatives, or family friends who might be interested in participating
Ask colleagues if they know any eligible participants
Display posters in your clinic waiting area
Display posters in public spaces (e.g., library or neighborhood/community center)
Approach people in your own personal network
Contact sites (e.g., school, childcare center, dance class, sporting group) to ask if posters can be displayed on noticeboards or in waiting areas

Ideas for Social Media & Online Recruitment

Share a recruitment post on your personal or clinic social media page
Share a recruitment post using Facebook™ community groups or pages you are a member of (e.g., neighborhood community groups, buy/swap/sell Facebook groups, professional networking forums)
Share information for participants on your personal forum, blog, or in an e-newsletter
Send an email to your colleagues, friends, or family
Ask a site (e.g., a childcare center, school, community group) to send an email with information about the study

Benefits of Candidate Participation

Participating as a candidate is rewarding! Past candidates have said they “enjoyed contributing to the process of making better assessments that are used widely among their peer group,” whereas others liked taking the test because it allowed them to “exercise their brain” while earning compensation.

Gift Card Compensation

As a thank you for participating in a project, each candidate will receive a Visa® Award Card in the mail 4–6 weeks after the assignment is completed. Visa Award Cards are sent to the candidate’s address listed in the Field Research Portal. To avoid delays, it is important to verify and update candidate contact information (i.e., mail address, email, and phone number) in the Field Research Portal.

Visa Award Card amounts vary depending on the project and number of tests completed by the candidate. Please review the Project Page for compensation details.

Recruiting Toolkit

A Recruiting Toolkit is available for examiners that includes eye-catching assets (e.g., images and flyer templates) that can be downloaded and edited. Examiners can easily add information to and print flyers or download images to post online via social media with additional information in captions.

Dos and Don'ts of Recruiting

Only use images provided by Pearson Field Research. These images have been approved for your use by our marketing team. Do not use any personal photos or photos pulled from a third-party image site.
Always protect candidate information. Ask any potential candidates to indicate their interest via direct message and never share candidate information. You may want to schedule a call with any interested candidates to collect their personal and demographic information securely over the phone.
Check with a site before displaying flyers at their location. Always contact a site’s manager/administrator before displaying any Field Research flyers. This also applies to community organizations and nonprofits (e.g., Goodwill, American Red Cross, or any other community service organizations local to your area).

Don’t

Change the formatting of the images provided. Keep the images formatted as they are provided; these images need to be colorful and eye catching. These photos are formatted to fit image guidelines for Facebook, Twitter™, and Instagram™. Cropping is not necessary.
Use inappropriate language or images.
Provide false information.

Understanding Your Payments

Examiner payments will process 4–6 weeks after Field Research has reviewed the data and deemed the completed test usable. Examiners will be paid by check or direct deposit for usable cases only.

All examinee payments will be digital and will be processed in 1–3 weeks after all test components have arrived at the Pearson office. Examinees will choose to receive the digital gift card via text or email while completing the candidate demographic questionnaire.

Avoiding Payment Delays

There are several ways to avoid payment delays.

Ensure that your Examiner Profile is current and includes a mailing address and contact information.
Submit an IRS Form W-9 annually and whenever a name or address change occurs. Ensure that your Examiner Profile matches the name and address provided on the IRS Form W-9.
Registering for direct deposit can expedite payment.
Ensure all examinee payment and contact information is accurate and complete in the Field Research Portal.
Never use the examiner or site address and contact information in place of an examinee’s. If an examinee does not have an address, instruct them to use the address of a close friend or relative.
Ensure we have a current consent form on file for the candidate tested.

IRS Form W-9

The IRS Form W-9 is a federal tax form that is used to provide taxpayer information. Pearson requires each examiner and site to have a current IRS Form W-9 on file to receive payment.

Fill out the following information:
- LINE 1: Full name as it appears in your Examiner Profile in the Field Research Portal
- LINE 3: Select the appropriate box
- LINES 5–6: Current mailing address as it appears in your Examiner Profile in the Field Research Portal
- PART 1: Provide your social security number
- PART 2: Read and agree by signing and dating the appropriate boxes
Upload the completed form as a PDF file to your Examiner Profile in the Field Research Portal. Securely upload documents in your Examiner Profile under the Examiner Information section:

Direct Deposit

Examiners have the option to submit a direct deposit form. This allows Pearson Field Research to send compensation for completing an assignment directly to your bank account.

For tax purposes, examiners who earn at least $600 in compensation will be issued a Form 1099 by Pearson's Accounts Payable Department. Field Research Payments does not issue 1099 forms directly.
